Amazon has rounded out the main cast for its upcoming adaptation of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series, casting the five young heroes who will travel with Rosamund Pike’s Moiraine on a “dangerous, world-spanning journey.” One of these five is prophesied to be “the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.”Madeleine Madden will play Egwene Al’Vere, Marcus Rutherford has been cast as Perrin Aybara, Barney Harris will portray Mat Cauthon, Zoë Robins is Nynaeve, and Josha Stradowski plays Rand Al’Thor.

Per Amazon, “The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine’s interested in these five because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it.”

Rafe Judkins serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series, which is based on Jordan’s bestselling fantasy novels. Other executive producers include Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of Red Eagle Entertainment, Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe, and Uta Briesewitz. Briesewitz is also set to direct the first two episodes. Pike also serves as producer while Jordan’s wife, Harriet McDougal, and author Brandon Sanderson are on board as consulting producers. The Wheel of Time is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television.
