now holds the record for the best-selling superhero game of all time in the United States, according to NPD.This bumps Batman: Arkham City off the top spot, which is impressive since that means Insomniac’s Spider-Man game outstripped a 2011 multiplatform release in less than a year.
The stats were released in a tweet by Mat Piscatella, an analyst at NPD who tracks video games.
It’s time for #ComicCon2019!

The table doesn’t reveal the exact figures of just how far ahead Marvel’s Spider-Man is compared to Arkham City, nor the exact timing of when it took the lead – though the data seems to have been pulled in May 2019. It’s also important to note this data has been mined from US sales only, meaning the global picture could be quite different.
Still, it’s another accolade during a year of commercial and critical success for the webslinger. During its first three days on shelves the game sold over 3.3 million copies, making it the fastest selling PlayStation exclusive ever. In our review Jonathon Dornbush praised Marvel’s Spider-Man for creating a truly immersive superhero experience that only occasionally lapsed in pace.
“At its core, Insomniac Games’ new adventure strives to make you feel like Spider-Man. And, thankfully, Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 succeeds at nearly every swing across Manhattan’s rooftops.
“Insomniac’s first foray into the realm of Marvel superheroes is a continually exciting adventure whose open world and combat are only occasionally caught up in a web of overly familiar trappings.”
Still, Spider-Man may have beaten Batman in the sales race but the Caped Crusader had the last laugh after winning a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In a recent IGN reader’s vote, however, you voted for Spider-Man to be the next superhero to earn the superstar treatment.
