DC Comics has announced a new one-shot comic called The Joker: Year of the Villain #1. Not only will this special shine a spotlight on the Clown Prince of Crime, it’ll be co-written by none other than horror legend John Carpenter.Carpenter is co-writing the issue with Anthony Burch, with whom he previously collaborated on BOOM! Studios’ Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack comic. This issue will feature art from Philip Tan and Marc Deering. Check out the cover below:

As the title suggests, this issue will tie into DC’s larger Year of the Villain crossover, which centers around an evolved Lex Luthor (nicknamed “Apex Lex”) offering various DC villains major upgrades in exchange for embracing the Legion of Doom’s mission of evil. As this issue will explore, though, Joker would rather prove to the world that he doesn’t need Luthor’s help to be his best, villainous self.

“The Joker is the greatest villain in comics,” said Carpenter in DC’s press release. “I’m proud to be reunited with Anthony on this project.”

“I’m excited beyond words to be writing for Gotham’s greatest villain,” said co-writer Burch. “I hope the Joker’s exploits make you laugh, shudder, and grow nauseous all at once.”

The Joker: Year of the Villain #1 is priced at $4.99 and is slated to hit stores on October 9.
