Fans have been reporting performance issues for the Nintendo Switch version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and developer ArtPlay announced it is “immediately shifting resources to improve performance and stability for the Switch.”Announced on Twitter, the statement reads:

We have been listening to the feedback regarding Switch performance. Our goal is for everyone, regardless of platform, to be able to enjoy the game and have it run smoothly. We want to live up to your, and our, expectations. Throughout the QA process we have been addressing performance issues in the game. Update 1.01 was published to Switch prior to launch to add content and improve performance. It did not accomplish as much as we had hoped and we need to do more.

We will have more details as we dive into the work. We thank you for your patience and apologize for the inconvenience. To address the concerns brought by the community we are immediately shifting resources to improve performance and stability for the Switch. You can expect a number of small updates that will improve different areas of the game rather than waiting longer for one big update.

Bloodstained Nintendo Switch Performance Issues

While Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One last week, it came to Nintendo Switch today, June 25. Players knew the Nintendo Switch game would have a lower frame rate and resolution from its counterparts, but there are several outstanding issues fans are reporting, including inconsistent frame rates, freezing, input latency, blurry textures, reduced graphical effects, crashes and some have even had to re-download the game

Reddit user Trav_Hogan posted a PSA in the Nintendo Switch Reddit to warn others not to buy the Switch version just yet. This user claims that by six hours into the game, frame rates were well-below a stable 30fps, saying it often goes barely above 15 fps in some sections. Besides the expected dip in visual quality, Trav_Hogan is reportedly experiencing crashes “almost every 2 hours,” with the game allegedly completely freezing at points with multiple enemies. While this user claims these issues are worse while docked, they allegedly happen in handheld mode as well.

Many playing this Switch version of the game backed Ritual of the Night on Kickstarter, and are understandably upset at its poor shape at launch, even following its 1.01 patch. Nearly 65,000 backers pledged over a combined $5.5 million to help bring the project to life, with the Kickstarter beginning back in 2015.

IGN spoke with creator Koji Igarashi earlier this month, learning how feedback from fans and critics influenced its visual style. In November 2018, Igarashi announced that Shantae: Half-Genie Hero developer WayForward Technologies was brought in to help finish Ritual of the Night.
