Hemsworth was born in Australia as the middle child of actors Luke and Liam Hemsworth. He first appeared in episodes of TV series like Neighbours and Marshall Law before joining the cast of the long-running Australian soap opera Home and Away. His first film role was (briefly) playing George Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. He would play the lead role in Thor just two years later, a role he has since played in two other Thor movies, four Avengers movies, and other appearances in video games, short films, etc.
After Thor, Hemsworth showed up in The Cabin in the Woods, the Huntsman movies, and the Ghostbusters remake as well as secured leading roles in movies from directors like Ron Howard and Oliver Stone. According to Box Office Mojo, the average Chris Hemsworth movie makes about $188 million in America/Canada. His movies have totaled over $11 billion in box office grosses. His Thor appearances make up his top seven movies at the box office, but his charisma and charm made it easy for fans to keep buying tickets.
“This year’s choices were particularly unique,” said Selection Committee Chair Vin Di Bona in a statement. “We were able to recognize the talents of 35 artists who have already built a legacy here in Hollywood. Also, we were able to celebrate many new talented artists who’ve touched our hearts in film, television, radio and a variety of musical categories.”
Outside of the Motion Picture category, other Walk of Fame honorees include TV actors Terry Crews, Andy Kaufman, Burt Ward and Christina Applegate, recording artists 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Billy Idol and Elvis Costello and stage performers Dave Chappelle and Billy Porter.
Hemsworth can be seen on the big screen right now co-leading Men in Black International, a movie IGN says has a script that “doesn’t live up to [the actors’] talents.” He will also appear in Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob movie, the action movie Dhaka produced by the Russo Brothers and a Hulk Hogan biopic from director Todd Phillips.
And, of course, the latest Avengers movie is still in theaters and Endgame will soon be re-releasing with new footage.
