Some find it particularly galling because more or less exactly the same thing happened to him in Avengers: Infinity War. Here’s a selection of reactions:
I cannot believe that they have done my boy Hawkeye dirty again

Hawkeye SAVES HALF THE UNIVERSE in the MCU (and is king in Marvel Comics for years) after you noobs doubted him, and Crystal Dynamics comes along and is like “nah fam, he’s not even a starting Avenger”

The implication that it will be Ant-Man (and a Hank Pym Ant-Man at that) who joins the team before Hawkeye has added an extra layer of consternation:
They got Ant-Man but not Hawkeye? That’s just disrespectful. And hilarious.

Of course, there are theories about all this. Some have suggested that he’ll be added to the line-up later to reflect his late addition to the Avengers in the original comics. Others have suggested that he could be revealed as a villain. My favourite theory is simpler: it’s just a big joke at Hawkeye’s expense.
Marvel’s Avengers – a third-person action game supporting single and multiplayer – will arrive for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Stadia on May 15, 2020.
