While we unfortunately won’t be able to play New Horizons this year, Nintendo did show off a pleasant bit of Animal Crossing footage that gives us a sense of what this new adventure holds.

The gameplay included the arrival of the player character to a new island getaway, where they set up a tent and begin living out their days cooking, growing plants, and more. The gameplay highlighted some of the new and familiar elements, including a new pole-vaulting item that will let players traverse water wherever, rather than having to run around finding a bridge. Crafting elements, pulling from the mobile entry Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, were also included.
Nintendo had previously announced the next Animal Crossing for a 2019 release back when the company revealed it in a September 2018 Nintendo Direct. That trailer showed Tom Nook situated in his office, but gave little indication to what the next Animal Crossing would be about.
