Godzilla: King of the Monsters was screened to members of the press ahead of the film’s release on May 31, 2019, and now all those lucky enough to see the latest take on Godzilla are able to share their first impressions with the world.
The response has been very positive, with many claiming that this is the Godzilla film they have always wanted. A perfect summer movie of epic proportions.
Here’s our roundup of the first reactions to Godzilla: King of the Monsters:
Steven Weintraub, editor-in-chief of Collider.com, had “real issues” with 2014’s Godzilla, but says Godzilla: King of the Monsters is everything he wanted the last movie to be.
Dan Casey, creative director at Nerdist, said this was the most fun he’s had in theaters all year and the scale is mind-boggling. Also, make sure to see it on a giant screen.
Erik Davis, managing editor of Fandango, also praises the film and says it feels as though the battle scenes are “gorgeous & fierce & feel ripped from the pages of a gnarly graphic novel.”
Megan Peters, writer and anime lead at Comicbook.com, says Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the film she has waited years for.
Paul Shirey, editor-in-chief of JoBlo.com, says its “a monster movie that fires on all cylinders.”
David Crow, associate editor at Den of Geek, loved the film and said “Godzilla: King of the Monsters is handily the craziest, most entertaining American kaiju movie in existence.”
