It’s really a magical time to be a movie fan. If you want to only watch movies at home, the advent of DVD releases was a huge step-up from the days of VHS. Now we’re in the Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray age, and televisions have never been bigger or cheaper, with better resolution. The DVD industry might be getting smaller thanks to the advent of streaming, but it’s not going anywhere quite yet.

Physical media like DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray sweeten the pot with attractive packaging and special features more easily accessible than streaming solutions. Here are the notable theatrical, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD Blu-ray releases for 2019 and if applicable, where to buy them or buy tickets. Click on the name of the month to jump to the entry further down the page. When movies are available in 4K UHD, they are noted as such.

We’ve also listed upcoming movies and movies in theaters now, so you can plan your next blockbuster weekend ahead of time.

When no release dates have yet been announced for a given month, it’s marked with a “N/A” note. This list updated regularly with new dates.

Past 2019 movie releases:

May 2019 DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Releases

May 7

Hellboy 2 (4K): The 2019 Hellboy was a disappointment, but the original films still deliver, big time. Both Hellboy and Hellboy 2 are now available in 4K UHD home video.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part: Continuing the tradition of fun animation and smart writing, the second Lego movie is just as much fun as the first, and moves forward the world built in the original Lego Movie.

May 14

King Kong (2005) (4K): Peter Jackson’s take on the classic cinematic tale of a monstrous ape and the love of his life is getting a Best Buy-exclusive steelbook collector’s edition.

Pitch Black: This cult-classic sci-fi movie is also getting a Best Buy steelbook collector’s edition.

May 21

Crank (4K): A ridiculous premise is played expertly here, and for the first time, you can watch this amazing action film in 4K.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Ultra Adventures: With 2 new Pokemon games coming to Switch later this year, now is the perfect time to catch up on the anime series. All 48 episodes of Sun and Moon Ultra Adventures are in this set.

May 26

May 28

June 2019 DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Releases

June 4

Batman (1989): The Tim Burton Batman strikes the perfect balance between the camp of the 1960s television series and the realism of the later Christopher Nolan films. Plus Jack Nicholson is great as the Joker.

Power Rangers: The Movie (1995): This is the original, campy, mid-90s classic. Get a heavy dose of nostalgia with the Power Rangers movie on Blu-ray.

June 11

Ghostbusters/Ghostbusters II 35th Anniversary Steelbook (4K): Ghostbusters is one of the best and most influential comedies of all time, and there’s also a sequel which fails to come close to its brilliance. It’s still fun, just nowhere near as good as the original.

June 18

The Scorpion King (4K): It’s a weird choice to bring The Scorpion King to 4K, because it has one of the worst CGI scenes ever committed to film. If you want to see the meme-worthy CGI for yourself at the highest possible resolution, this is some great news.

Us (4K): If you missed this in the theaters and somehow managed to stay spoiler-free, now’s your chance to bring it home and enjoy it in the confines of your own home.

Past 2019 Movie Releases:

January 2019 DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Releases

January 1

January 8

Mid90s: Jonah Hill’s directorial debut is a pull-no-punches comedic drama set in Los Angeles in the 1990s. It’s a cool look at the period through the lens of a 13-year old skater kid.

January 15

Once Upon a Deadpool: The Deadpool movies are famously R-rated affairs, but Ryan Reynolds and company went back to create something more audience-friendly without losing too much of its violent, filthy charm.

January 22

Cobra: “Crime is a disease. Meet the cure.” What more do you need to know than that? This awesome 1980s Sylvester Stallone movie is concerned with two things: chewing bubblegum, and letting Stallone look like a bad-ass, and it’s all out of bubblegum.

January 29

Doctor Who: The Complete Eleventh Series: For the first time in the nearly five decades of Doctor Who, a woman plays the part of the Time Lord. This 3-disc set contains every episode from the eleventh season, or as the Brits call it, the eleventh series.

Willow: If you thought George Lucas only made Star Wars movies in the 1980s, you owe it to yourself to check out this often overlooked movie. It’s a mash-up of fantasy tropes that come together to make something wonderful.

February 12

Fright Night (1985): One of the greatest horror movies of the 1980s is on Blu-ray. The remake did an admirable job, but to truly appreciate the tale of a vampire next door, check out the original.

February 19

A Star Is Born: Bradley Cooper stars as an alcoholic musician on a downward slide whose life is turned around after meeting Ally, played by Lady Gaga.

February 26

The Little Mermaid (4K): The 1989 animated classic from Disney isn’t getting a live-action remake quite yet, but it is available on 4K Blu-ray for the first time, ever.
