Rest easy, John Wick 3 has plenty more good dogs.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was screened to members of the press ahead of the film’s release on May 17, 2019, and now their initial reactions are allowed to be shared with the world.
The response has been very positive, with many saying it’s more of what makes the John Wick franchise great and that, perhaps most importantly, there are more good dogs.
Here’s our roundup of the first reactions to John Wick 3:
IGN’s Terri Schwartz had a few issues with John Wick 3’s storytelling and character decisions, but enjoyed the insane fights, greater focus on lore, and the aforementioned greater amount of dogs.
IGN’s Jim Vejvoda assures that fans of the franchise will be pleased as John Wick 3 is “chock full of inventive set-pieces and brutal kills, while also providing new facets to the intricate underworld lore fans of the franchise have come to love.”
Steven Weintraub, editor-in-chief of Collider.com, praised the set pieces that are “so insane you’ll wonder how director Chad Stahelski and his team filmed them.”
Mike Rougeau of Gamespot isn’t sure how much this movie truly adds to the franchise, but reassures that this is more John Wick, which is never a bad thing.
Ethan Alter, senior writer for Yahoo Entertainment, says one scene features knives being thrown and that it is “pretty much the greatest thing ever.” He was afraid the movie peaked there, but was happily wrong.
Hoai-Tran Bui of /Film believes John Wick 3 is “a leaner, exhilarating story chock full of breathless, bone-crunching action and even a few laughs.”
Mike Ryan, senior entertainment writer for Uproxx, didn’t love the first two John Wick films, but thought this one was “pretty awesome.”
Vinnie Mancuso, associate editor for Collider, can’t even put into words how “good the dogs in #JohnWick3 are.”
Scott Mendelson of Forbes thinks John Wick 2 is a “better” movie, but that John Wick 3 is “completely entertaining and a living video game.”
Michael Reyes of CinemaBlend says Keanu Reeves has raised the stunt bar again and can’t wait to see the future of this franchise.
Brent Goldman of FilmInquiry thinks John Wick 3 is “action at its finest” and that it may feature his favorite Keanu Reeves’ kill of the franchise.
Courtney Howard, a writer for Variety, TheWrap, and more, thinks John Wick 3 is a “eye-popping, jaw-dropping, show-stopping killer.” She loved “every stellar minute.”
