Welcome to Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu.
Disney has revealed a ton of new information for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including attractions, food, drinks, and even a shop where fans can create a one-of-a-kind Lightsaber.
Last week, a special preview event was held at Disneyland Resort that revealed more of the magic of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and it’s our biggest look yet at the land that aims to transport fans into the universe of Star Wars and make dreams come true.
The Millennium Falcon and Rise of the Resistance
We’ve heard a little bit about the two main attractions at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – and more details have been revealed on what to expect.
In the Millennium Falcon ride, up to six people will sit in the cockpit of the Falcon and will “fly it, fire its cannons, and manage its controls.”
Star Wars portfolio creative executive / studio leader at Walt Disney Imagineering Scott Trowbridge said of this newest ride to StarWars.com, “if you don’t fire and hit that TIE fighter that’s coming after you, it may get some shots and create some damage on the ship that then you have to fix. If you don’t fly right to avoid that oncoming whatever, you smash into a wall, your ship is going to fly right and smash into that wall. You’re truly in control of what happens on your mission.”
In Rise of the Resistance, guests will have the opportunity to join the Resistance and take their place in a battle between the Resistance and the First Order in such locales as a forest area outside the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu all the way to inside a Star Destroyer were they will eventually come face-to-face with Kylo Ren.
John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe), Daisy Ridley (Rey), and even BB-8 will appear during the attraction to help you on your journey!
The People, Aliens, and Droids of Black Spire Outpost
As you arrive on at the Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu, where Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge takes place, you will be living a Star Wars journey. While the timeline hasn’t been fully confirmed, Pablo Hidalgo of the Lucasfilm Story Group has said that it will take place at some point around the Resistance/First order conflict.
As you walk through Galaxy’s Edge, you will see and meet such characters as Hondo Ohnaka from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, who is “one of Disney Parks’ most complex Audio-Animatronics figures ever created.” Alongside fan-favorite characters, you can also see old Star Tours pilot R-3X as a DJ, Loth Cats (!), Porgs, and even the Ithorian Dok-Ondar who runs the black market on Batuu.
Disney Cast Members will be dressed as native Batuuans and will each have a story to tell, with some being Resistance sympathizers and others being First Order loyalists.
As you walk around Galaxy’s Edge, you can also use your phone as an in-universe datapad via the Play Disney parks App. It will unlock missions and stories, allow guests to translate alien languages, hack droids, message with characters like Hondo, and so much more.
The Shops, Food, and Drinks of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Once inside Galaxy’s Edge, guests will have the opportunity to live our their Star Wars dreams, including building a one-of-a-kind Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, where a Jedi or Sith Lightsaber can be created, complete with a kyber crystal at its core.
At the Droid Depot, you can build your own BB or R2 unit and make your new best friend.
Both the Lightsaber and Droid will help enhance your experience at the Black Spire Outpost. The Lightsaber will house a secret message that can only be unlocked when paired with a holocron, while your Droid will react to your experiences as you explore this new planet.
Guests can buy a pet or creature at Bina’s Creature Stall, purchase character plushies, musical instruments, and more at the toyshop run by Toydarian Zabaka. Black Spire Outfitters will allow visitors to purchase Jedi attire and more to truly blend in to this world.
As mentioned previously, Dok-Ondar has his Den of Antiquities where you can find the previously mentioned holocrons, stone carvings of Jedi warriors, and more rare artifacts.
As for food and drink, guests will have many options including Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo’s Fried Endorian Tip-Yip (fried chicken), Ronto Roasters’ Ronto Wrap (sausage and pork), and Meiloorun Juice which was featured in Star Wars Rebels.
You can visit R-3X at Oga’s Cantina and order such drinks as a Fuzzy Tauntaun and even the iconic Blue Milk that was served by Luke Skywalker’s Aunt Beru in A New Hope.
Oh, and a green variety also will be available that is said to come directly from The Last Jedi’s Thala-sirens.
This is only a small glimpse into the ever-expansive Galaxy’s Edge that will continue to evolve and delight and allow Star Wars fans from all around the world to live out a fantasy many have held since they first saw their first Star Wars film.
