Thessalhydra figure sold separately.
The intersect of Stranger Things fans and Dungeons and Dragons players has physically manifested itself in an all-new, upcoming Dungeons and Dragons starter set from Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.
The Stranger Things D&D starter set comes out May 1, and includes a scenario based on “The Hunt for the Thessalhydra” campaign played by the characters in the first season of the show. It’s in this campaign we’re first introduced to the Demogorgon, the creature the kids would later encounter outside the realm of their imaginations.
Not only does it include character sheets, a set of 6 dice, rulebook and adventure book, it also includes two Demogorgon miniatures. One of the miniatures is ready to play fresh out of the box, while the other one is unpainted, letting you hone your own skills as a painter.
On top of all of that inside the box, the packaging itself hearkens back to the famous red box basic D&D set available between 1983 and 1985. In spite of its short run in the scheme of things, the design is one of the most easily recognizable and iconic in Dungeons and Dragons. On top of that, it’s perfectly period appropriate for the show’s 1980s setting.
You can preorder the Stranger Things D&D Starter Set on Amazon right now for $24.99. The Stranger Things Season 3 premiere date is set for July 4, 2019, so the D&D set should hopefully scratch your Stranger Things itch while you wait.
What’s unclear is what version of the rules the Stranger Things set follows, but if it’s like the regular starter set, the included scenario will have 5th Edition rules. We’ve reached out to Wizards of the Coast for clarification.
In the meantime, the 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons starter set is only $9.59 on Amazon and Walmart. If you want to play right now, this is a great price.
