Daredevil #1 – $4.99
Writer Chip Zdarsky | Artists Marco Checchetto & Chip Zdarsky | Cover Artist Julian Totino Tedesco (Marvel Comics)
You didn’t think Marvel would let Daredevil go very long without a new comic, would you? This relaunched series welcomes aboard a brand new creative team, as Spectacular Spider-Man writer Chip Zdarsky and Old Man Hawkeye artist Marco Checchetto try their hands at the Man Without Fear.
That creative pedigree alone would justify picking up[ this first issue. However, there’s also the burning question of what comes next for Matt Murdock. When the previous volume wrapped, what seemed like a total victory for Matt instead morphed into a defeat that left him clinging to life. Can he bounce back yet again? And what about that pesky Kingpin problem? Daredevil definitely has his work cut out for him in 2019.
Red Sonja #1 – $3.99
Writer Mark Russell | Artist Mirko Colak | Cover Artist Amanda Conner (Dynamite Entertainment)
Dynamite tends to relaunch its major titles every year or so, so the prospect of a new Red Sonja #1 isn’t necessarily a huge deal. That is, until you see the book’s new creative team. The latest volume of red Sonja features what should be an effective balance of old and new. Artist Mirko Colak is a natural fit for the book given his experience with the Conan franchise. And as for writer Mark Russell, his subversively funny work on books like The Flintstones and Exit Stage Left suggests that he’ll be able to bring a fresh, clever spin to a fan-favorite heroine.
Female Furies #1 – $3.99
Writer Cecil Castellucci | Artist Adriana Melo | Cover Artist Mitch Gerads (DC Comics)
We imagine a great many DC readers have a Mister Miracle-sized hole in their reading list right about now. We’re hoping Female Furies can fill that void. This miniseries isn’t a direct followup to Tom King and Mitch Gerads Mister Miracle. It doesn’t even feature the same creative team (beyond Gerads providing the covers). However, it does offer a closer glimpse of the struggles faced by Big Barda and her fellow Female Furies. We’re excited to see what the writer of Shade, the Changing Girl and the artist of Plastic Man can do for these iconic Fourth World characters.
The Avengers #14 – $3.99
Writer Jason Aaron | Artist David Marquez (Marvel Comics)
Among the many big developments in The Avengers #10, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes extended an invitation to everyone’s favorite vampire-hunting superhero, Blade. Issue #14 follows up on that twist as the series begins a new storyline called “The War of the Vampires.” Civil war is plaguing Transylvania, and Dracula may just find himself in need of a little avenging. We’re excited to see Blade back at the forefront of the Marvel Universe after so long, especially in a book featuring two of the best creators working at Marvel today.
