Good chances to save on smartening up your home.
Amazon’s Echo devices are on sale right now, and if you’re looking to grab onto the leading edge of the sci-fi future promised to us in movies, Echo is a great place to start. Video phones never really caught on in the way the 1990s thought they would, but we do have the new Echo Show, which is about as close as you can get. And the voice-controlled future of Star Trek is baked right into every Echo device.
What’s even cooler is the integration of Amazon’s Alexa service into non-Echo devices. There’s a wide assortment of household electronics and appliances with Alexa built-in, and even more that work with the help of an Echo device. The AmazonBasics microwave, for example, can be controlled with your voice by pairing it with an Echo device. Picking up a remote control is some last-century nonsense. We don’t have mind-controlled devices (yet), so this is as close as it gets without getting creepy.
2nd Gen Echo Show Bundle for $179.99
If you buy the already discounted second-generation Echo Show, you get a free Philips Hue light bulb. That means not only do you get the 10-inch HD screen and power of Alexa in the Echo Show, you also get a lightbulb that’s essentially magical. You can use the Echo Show to watch Hulu, Prime Video, make calls, or whatever you want, really.
Echo Spot for $99.99
If the Echo Show is more than you’re willing to spend, or you’d rather just have a more compact video-enabled Echo device, the Spot is also on sale. It’s a little more retro-futuristic than the Show, with its small, round screen. It looks almost like a television from a 1960’s sci-fi, but on a much smaller scale. You could put this next to your bed and use it as an interactive alarm clock, but no one should tell you what you can and can’t do with your Echo Spot.
2nd Gen Echo for $69.99
This is probably the best value, in my opinion. It’s not reduced as much as some of the other devices, but a 30% price reduction is nothing to sneeze at, and it’s probably worth paying a little more for an all-around great device without making sacrifices. You get all the joy of Alexa, a great sounding speaker, and an attractive device that can blanket your home with intelligence far better than the ghost of any college professor that might be haunting it.
3rd Gen Echo Dot for $29.99
This is a great choice if you want to expand Alexa coverage, or you want to dip your toes into the Echo ecosystem without spending a lot of money. There’s an even better deal where you can get 2 of the third-generation Echo Dots for $50. Just add them to your cart and the price is reflected at checkout. Whether you’re expanding or just starting out, this is a great way to get the Echo’s little sibling.
Echo Plus for $119.99
The Echo Plus is a premium version of the Amazon Echo. For the extra cost, you get a better speaker, which means music is clearer, louder, and can better fill up a room with whatever sounds you want. It also has line-in or line-out, wired or over Bluetooth. That makes it into a very nice speaker for your existing audio devices.
Echo Dot Kids Edition for $34.99
I don’t think there is anyone better at accepting new technology than kids. If you want to introduce your kids to a device on which they’ll someday look back fondly, the Echo Dot Kids Edition is also on sale. It has “thousands of hours of fun and educational content” like books and radio stations, without ads, as part of a free year of FreeTime Unlimited.
2nd Gen Echo Pair and Echo Sub for $249.97
If you pick up this bundle, you save $80 and you load up your life with sound. The Echo Sub isn’t a standalone device, and needs to be paired with a compatible device like the included Echo devices. However, it also works with Echo Plus, Echo Dot, or Echo Show. But that’s beside the point. This is a great all-in-one solution to get you going in the Echo ecosystem if you plan to primarily listen to music and want it to sound as good as possible.
