Updated: It’s been one week and Red Dead Redemption 2 players are searching for a bunch of new legendary animals, hard-to-find places, cheats, tips, and, of course, horse brushes. The latest answers to the questions you are asking the most can be found at the top of the list, right below the break.
Using a combination of traffic, user feedback, comments, and search data, we can now see where people are really getting stuck in Red Dead Redemption 2. From RDR2’s confusing cheats system to basic horse maintenance, here are the top “Most Wanted” cheats, tips, item locations, and how-to guides RDR2 players are searching for — and the in-depth guides with the answers you seek. We’ll keep it spoiler-free!
Saint Denis is the largest city on the map and features both a Trapper (for selling Legendary Pelts) and a Fence (for selling stolen goods like Gold bars). It’s in the southwestern portion of RDR2’s map (the lower right).
The best pistol is probably the Volcanic Pistol (pictured above), the best rifle is a Lancaster Repeater, and the best shotgun is the Semi-Auto Shotgun.
There are three types of Bison in Red Dead 2, including two Legendary Animals:
The common American Bison can be found in the Heartlands in two specific locations.
You’ll find the Tatanka Bison in good ol’ Hennigan’s Stead, south of Stillwater Creek.
The Legendary White Bison can be tracked down along the north shore of Lake Isabella.
Check out the Red Dead 2 Interactive Map for more on these locations.
The Legendary Panther appears in the far southeast, below Rhodes — but you’ll need to complete 9 Hunting Challenges before it appears. This is the only legendary animal locked behind the challenges.
You get a cool Panther’s Eye Trinket (Trinkets are RDR2’s perk system) for hunting it down!
Legendary Animals are hard to track down, but the first thing to do is start with this Legendary Animals in Red Dead 2 Map. From there you’ll need to turn on Eagle Eye, find three clues, and only then will Legendary Animals appear. You can’t ruin their pelts, so bring a good gun with you!
There are three sets of Treasure Maps in Red Dead Redemption 2. For each set you must first find an initial map, and that leads to… more maps! And then treasure in the form of Gold Bars.
The starting maps for the Jack Hall Gang Treasure and the Poisonous Trail Treasure can be found by just going to a location. The High Stakes Treasure map is linked to a Stranger you meet north of Strawberry — at random, unfortunately. But we’ll show you how to make him spawn in our Red Dead Redemption 2 Treasure Map Guide.
This is still really confusing for most players, don’t sweat it. You can sell nearly everything you can loot at the fence. A fence is someone who buys stolen goods — shopkeepers will buy most other things from you.
There are 30 Dinosaur Bones that can be found in Red Dead 2, and these can be returned to a researcher just south of the H in Heartlands on the map. You should talk to her before starting your quest.
Everything you were searching for last week follows.
Quick, before it’s patched! Use this exploit to make more than $15,000 in Red Dead 2 in just a few minutes!
If that gets patched, or if you need more money, check out this handy guide to all the ways to find Gold Bars in RDR2, and how to make big money in other ways.
You can’t fish until you complete a specific mission in Chapter 2 of Red Dead 2. Here’s how that works, and how to catch fish:
To fast travel you must first upgrade your camp. It costs a lot of money (see How to Make Money), and you’ll have to play a few seemingly unrelated missions to unlock the Ledger first.
Entering codes in the cheats menu can activate handy assists (while also deactivating saving and Achievements/Trophies) such as Infinite Health and Spawn a War Horse. But there’s a catch: you can’t enter all codes from the start. It’s complicated, so definitely check out our guide to Red Ded 2 cheats.
We’ve also created this video to help:
You’re prompted to clean your horse early in the campaign, and though you can just ride through water to do this, you can also brush your horse with a horse brush. Like fishing, the horse brush is locked behind a mission in Chapter 2. After getting it you can use it by targeting your horse from the ground.
To sell gold bars (ingots) worth $500 you’ll need to unlock a fence. Not the white picket kind — the kind of fence that buys stolen goods, no questions asked. You can ride right to a Fence in Chapter 2 but a really easy-to-access Fence is unlocked in – you guessed it – a specific mission in Chapter 2.
You can rob a train pretty much from the start of Chapter 2 in Red Dead 2, but you’ll want to get dynamite first. Here’s why:
While robbing a train in Red Dead Redemption 2 you might come across a safe. You can use dynamite to open it.
There are a few ways to clear a bounty in Red Dead 2, but the easiest, and perhaps the strangest way, is to pay them off at the post office.
In short? The (Elite) Arabian is a really good horse — maybe the best in Red Dead 2 — and you can get it for free by taming it in the wild. Here’s how:
Here’s a video, too:
To unlock fast travel and a ton of other useful upgrades in RDR2, you’ll need to upgrade your camp. To do this you’ll need to complete a mission in Chapter 2. After that, you can use the Ledger to upgrade your camp. Here’s every upgrade you can get:
It’s possible to get perfect pelts used in upgrades in Red Dead 2 by using a combination of spotting animals with your binoculars, equipping the right weapon and ammo, and using a peculiar charm you can find to increase your luck. The secrets to perfect hunting are here:
What do I do with this Legendary Bear Pelt?
The Legendary Bear Pelt in RDR2 can be traded to a Trapper. Here are the Trapper locations and more on what to do with that pelt:
