One of the biggest games at Tokyo Game Show 2018 was Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 Remake. Next year the studio will release a re-imagined version of one of the most beloved survival horror titles so, understandably, fans are paying extra close attention to the remake treatment. At the show we caught up with Tsuyoshi Kanda and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, both producers on the title, who laid out their approach.

For the most part, Resident Evil 2 Remake strives to stick as close to the original as possible, according to them, and in the video above they explain why this was necessary and how they’re doing it. Specifically, the duo discuss fleshing out the story, creating a new look Claire, and, arguably most importantly, the balancing act between creating a scary, atmospheric experience while also empowering the player to move quicker and dispatch zombies more easily.

We also got hands-on with the game, taking on a G-Virus boss enemy (name omitted for spoiler reasons) and explored some of the garage and Police Chief quarters of Racoon City’s police station. On top of that replayed a chunk of Leon’s section which was previously shown during E3 and Gamescom 2018.
