The Guardians are welcoming some weird new members.
Marvel Comics has big plans for the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2019, including launching a new ongoing series from Thanos Wins creative team Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw. The new series will introduce a bigger, more eclectic Guardians roster, and Marvel has begun revealing the members of that new team.
Marvel has released a new teaser image featuring a partially obscured look at the new Guardians lineup. Check out the characters confirmed so far:
The characters revealed so far include Cosmic Ghost Rider, Gladiator, Moondragon and Beta Ray Bill.
The new team looks to be a major break from recent incarnations of the Guardians, most of which have emphasized MCU-friendly characters like Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax. Of these initial four reveals, only Moondragon has served with the Guardians before, while both Beta Ray Bill and Guardian were members of the short-lived cosmic team The Annihilators.
As for Cosmic Ghost Rider, he’s a much more recent addition to the cosmic Marvel lineup. He was created by Cates and Shaw as part of the Thanos Wins story, with readers learning that this kooky villain is actually a version of Frank Castle from the far future (more on how that bizarre transformation took place here). Cosmic Ghost Rider is currently starring in his own spinoff miniseries, but it looks as though he’s about to take on a bigger role in the Marvel Universe.
This teaser makes it clear that there are several more character reveals to come. It’s tough to make out most of the other silhouettes, though it looks as though Groot will be sticking around at least.
We’ll update this article as more teasers are revealed. For now, let us know in the comments below what other cosmic heroes you’d like to see in the new Guardians of the Galaxy.
