Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Reveal, Trailers, Story, World, Characters, John Marston

We’ve seen quite a bit of Red Dead Redemption 2 so far, including extended gameplay demos and story trailers that reveal more about the world and characters of Red Dead Redemption 2. Here’s a breakdown of what we know.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Reveal

Past trailers for Red Dead Redemption 2 have shown off gameplay, albeit with altered camera angles, but we’ve yet to get a traditional gameplay reveal. The first one is scheduled to drop on August 9 at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm BST, as announced by Rockstar today. You’ll be able to see it on Rockstar’s official website, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch channel.

IGN will also be hosting the gameplay reveal on Tune in 15 minutes early for our Red Dead Redemption 2 pre-show and stick around to hear our impressions right after.

Red Dead Redemption 2: 45 Minute Gameplay Demo

We saw a 45-minute live gameplay demo of Red Dead Redemption 2 that showed off both the open-world and a more structured mission. We spent some time with the Dutch and the rest of the Van der Linde gang, exploring the woods outside our camp while hunting for food and interacting with some of the local citizens and wildlife.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Open World

We sat down with Rob Nelson, Co-Studio Head of Rockstar North, to talk about how Arthur fits into the gang and the world, and how the team is massing a global effort to create their most ambitious open world experience yet.

We also went back and pointed out all the systems we could spot on display in all three trailers we’ve seen so far.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Characters, John Marston, Arthur Morgan, the Van der Linde Gang

When the second trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 arrive back in we were first introduced to our new protagonist, Arthur Morgan – we knew next to nothing about him them, but we learned a great deal about our new anti-hero and the trials he can expect to face after seeing a day in his life and talking to his creators.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel with a new protagonist, but a young John Marston is confirmed to make an appearance.

You may recognize a few familiar faces from the original Red Dead Redemption, but there are a lot of new characters who have found themselves traveling with Dutch van der Linde’s roving band of outlaws.

We don’t know much about all of the gang members you’ll meet, but check out the slideshow above for all the info we have on these renegades of the Old West.

Every Detail Hidden in Red Dead Redemption 2’s Third Trailer

With what we know about the story, locations, and characters, we’re able to highlight all the important details in the latest trailer about the story of Dutch’s gang and the increasingly-less-Wild West. See our full breakdown with additional info here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Story: More Than Just a Prequel

Even though it takes place 12 years before the events of the original Red Dead Redemption, it’s not just a prequel to John Marston’s story – it’s its own unique story that serves as a companion piece to the first. Check out the full story here.
